Westminster Elite - English Pronunciation
I was born and raised in England and lived there until 1997, when at age 11, my family and I moved to Canada. I am half-Canadian, half-British, and therefore hold two passports, and can speak with either a British or North American accent.
Soon after moving, I developed a Canadian English accent through hard work. I began to automatically use the new Canadian accent with friends and strangers. However, I still used British English with my family. Thus, I gained mastery of both British and North American English.
In 2009, I graduated from Toronto’s York University with a BA in Environmental Science, at which time I switched focus and began to study teaching English as a Second Language. I ran my first ESL program in 2010 at IKEA Toronto, where I designed and taught a course for IKEA's Chinese employees who were struggling to communicate with their coworkers and customers.
In August of 2010 I moved to Shikoku, Japan, and started my journey teaching English. For four years I taught in the Japanese public school system, before being hired by Coca Cola Japan to help their Japanese employees improve their business English communication.
After great feedback from the students, I was selected to create, design and implement a business English program at Salesforce Tokyo. In 2015, I decided to return to Canada in order to enhance my ESL teaching qualifications.
From 2015-2017, I completed a master’s degree in TESOL, graduating top of my class with a 4.1 GPA. I then formed Westminster Elite, a private English tutoring business that specializes in accent reduction and English pronunciation.
In May 2017, I was hired to lead an accent reduction program at Amazon Canada, and worked to improve Amazon’s Chinese, Russian, Ukrainian, Brazilian, Argentinian, Israeli and Indian employees' communication.
In 2018, I was hired as a professor for the Global Teaching Institute at Tokyo International University, where I taught Haptic Pronunciation to TIU's Japanese students, in order to help reduce their accents.
I was also the lead coordinator of the Testing Committee, and created tutorial videos to help TIU's students prepare to ace the TOEIC and IELTS tests, in order to help them succeed at a Canadian, British or Australian university, or in their future career in Japan.
In September of 2024, I returned to Canada after the conclusion of my contract in Tokyo, and now teach English and accent reduction to private students in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, as well as online.
